My first mortgage which was with The Derbyshire Building Society i had PPi insurance on it but not sure who with.
My second mortgage the same with Alliance and leicester.
If i ring Derbyshire and Alliance and Leicester will they tell me if i have a claim to make? or do i need to find out who my PPI insurance was with?
I am now with the halifax, i have PPI insurance with Legal and General but it was sold to me by my financial advisor who told me i had to have PPI, do i claim against my advisor, the Legal and General or the halifax??
All a bit daunting but going to give it a try

You first of all need to realise that no financial institution will tell you that you have a "claim". You have to determine yourself if you have sufficient reasons to make a complaint that your insurance was mis-sold to you. You then complain direct to whoever sold the insurance to you.If i ring Derbyshire and Alliance and Leicester will they tell me if i have a claim to make? or do i need to find out who my PPI insurance was with?

But realise also that Mortgage PPI (MPPI) covers your most valuable asset, your home, and that mis-selling complaints are usually dismissed unless you have verifiable evidence that the insurance was unsuitable for your needs.0 -
I know for a fact when i got my mortgage with Derbyshire and Alliance and leicester i was told i HAD to have PPI or i couldn't have the mortgage.
I went through Bradford and Bingley to get a mortgage and they set it up with the Derbyshire if i remember right.
Thanks for your help!!0 -
This is the weakest complaint possible with mortgage PPI, the Building Society was allowed to tell you that payment protection was strongly recommended and if you refused it they had to record exactly why you declined.I know for a fact when i got my mortgage with Derbyshire and Alliance and leicester i was told i HAD to have PPI or i couldn't have the mortgage.
Your assertion is weak because you can provide no proof that you were told it was compulsory, it's just "hearsay".
Look for stronger, verifiable complaint reasons if you hope to have any success with your "complaint".
Don't try to apply complaint reasons that only apply to loans and credit cards.0 -
Why do you feel that you don't need PPI? How will you pay your mortgage if you lose your job for whatever reason - sickness, accident, redundancy etc?0

Most L&G insurances for mortgages appear to be sold by L&G tied agents (very common in estate agents for example). Their model is to require you to purchase insurance through them to get free mortgage advice. That model is allowed. So, a complaint on that basis would likely fail.I know for a fact when i got my mortgage with Derbyshire and Alliance and leicester i was told i HAD to have PPI or i couldn't have the mortgage.
many mortgage deals in the 90s through to early 2000s required an insurance purchase to get the deal. Again, that is allowed. However, even if it wasnt, they will have nothing on file to show you were told that and chances are you haven't. In those cases, they will reject that point but look at suitability. So everyone who has advised me to claim PPI back were wrong i guess.
I didn't need PPI because where i work pays full pay for a year if you go on sick and half pay for 6 months after then. Plus i only have a very small mortgage.
I was always led to believe by others who have claimed that being told you have to have it to buy a mortgage was enough.
Probably won't even waste my time trying.
Thanks everyone.0 -
Earlier you were asking if your lender would tell you that you had a "claim to make", you need to understand that only you can decide that.So everyone who has advised me to claim PPI back were wrong i guess.
All we have done here is inform you that your complaint reason is weak and that you are complaining about the only PPI that is worth having.
It's up to you whether to still proceed.
Would that cover your mortgage payments? The PPI would payout in addition to your employment benefits. In order for it to be accepted that you had no financial need for mortgage PPI, you would need fluid savings of typically twice your annual salary. Did you have this at the time of the sale?I didn't need PPI because where i work pays full pay for a year if you go on sick and half pay for 6 months after then.0 -

When you consider what you have been told then a lot of it is clearly wrong or at least sort of wrong.I didn't need PPI because where i work pays full pay for a year if you go on sick and half pay for 6 months after then. Plus i only have a very small mortgage.
a good reason on many loan and credit card PPI but not so much on mortgage. Typically you would need to show you have a couple of years income in savings to show no need.I was always led to believe by others who have claimed that being told you have to have it to buy a mortgage was enough.
Not quite. If you are told you had to have it when you didnt then that is wrong. However, if the pricing model of the broker is that you need to buy insurance to get free mortgage advice then that is allowed. L&G reps are well known for having that requirementI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
