Whats the response rate to applications these days?

Although I have been searching daily for a year or more now where I live there are not a lot of opportunities for someone like me. But this past couple of weeks things have taken off and I've applied for 8 jobs now for which I am suitable, So I am wondering how many jobs do you apply for these days before you get an interview?

I would say for me its about 1 every 1,000 and a am not joking!
I never hear back from any unless I chase and even then you are hard pushed to even get taken seriously.
Got turned down by a large drinks co for being too qualified for the job so they would not interview me! They bigged up the job and it was a junior they were looking for. I say a lot of the jobs I apply for are a waste of me time.
PS
I am sure you know the answer to this when you were looking for a job last timeWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Believe it or not, In the last year I averaged about 6 applications and got 1 telephone interview. Actually applying for jobs is all rather new to me due to the lack of them in my area.
1 in 1000 is actually quite shocking, It would take me a few decades to apply for that amount at the rate I'm going.0 -
Well then so you wont be applying for 1000 anytime soonBelieve it or not, In the last year I averaged about 6 applications and got 1 telephone interview. Actually applying for jobs is all rather new to me due to the lack of them in my area.

IF there are over 300 applying for each job and they do not read your CV then what do people expect? I am either over qualified, been out of work too long. don't believe I want to work part time, or CV is never read. Cant do anything about any of them. We’ve had to remove your signature. Good to see pick up
the stuggle for me isn't getting the interview, it is getting beyond the interview even when employers appear so keen, so many employers advertise where there isn't a job actually available I've found or you get to interview not fully appreciating everything that goes with taking that job - eg. no car parking on company site so parking cost needs to be factored from wage, how do I get home if public transport is not available stuff like that, which I once throught my Dad was boring for but his right things need to be weighed up so not left in a worse position
I have found if someone is keen they'll normally in touch quickly days rather then weeks, must say my quickest response has to be today - within an hour, interview tomorrow - just got to appear outrageously confident now! :cool:0 -

Funny you mention jobs not actually existing as I've got caught out myself by this twice, I just sent out a speculative cv and the same day I got called for interviews, employers seemed very keen then only to tell me no jobs existed.
Good luck for tomorrow.0 -
I would put my money on a conservative estimate of 50% get back to you, even if 'sorry unsuccessful'. Don't read too much into some negative nellies on here.0

Speak for yourself
actually you might try reading the first line of my post to the OP (not that negative)
I will, of course, quote actual stats when I finally have a job and thank the companies that acted with every grace during my job search0 -
I'm sitting at around 1% thus far this year, very disheartening but hey, somewhere there's a job which it's my fate to land, the other 99%, well, they just don't deserve my particular brand of awesome in their business do they!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Since rejoining the unemployed market at the beginning of march I have applied for 200 jobs approx and not even had a sorry email or letter.0
