John Lewis no help

Hello, basically my complaint is, I bought a ex-display Apple Mac from JL for £1100. 10 month later it stopped working, I took it back, and they told me it 'could take up to two weeks' to get fixed. So I postponed moving abroad for another week. After no correspondence from them, I had called them 4 times to try and find out what was going on. Almost three weeks later the lady i got on the phone made an appointment with a manager to call me, which also never happened. I contacted my branch and they said the laptop had water damage, £400+ to fix, so I can pay it or get it back the way it is. I have no knowledge of it getting wet in anyway. I can't put off my move abroad no longer, so I more or less have spent that money and have nothing :( Apart from getting it sent home, even though I won't be there, do JL have a case to answer, or is there no more I can do? Any advice would be appreciated :) thanks

There are moisture tags inside laptops and phones to indicate moisture ingress into devices, additionally due to their nature laptops tend to show dried spots inside the device if liquid has been present.

What was the fault it had and under what circumstances did it occur?
You moving abroad is not jl's problem, nor does it have any relevance to the situation you are in.

You also refer to spending money and getting nothing, bit dramatic, you've had 10 months use and still have the option of having it repaired. JL have no case to answer if the moisture tags inside the device haves tripped or there is clear moisture evidence. It's not unusual for them to be able to provide photographic evidence of the damage they find.

Water/moisture ingress is not a warranty item. Any repair would be chargeable.

Apple products are available world wide take it with you and have it fixed in your new home. I'm sure you have enough to think about now so best not unduly worry about this now.

I know about the moisture tabs, and their tech. support have said there is water damage, which is fair enough. But as I said, I have no knowledge of water damage occurring since I've had it. And yes my moving does have relevance, because if they say it could take up to two weeks, I expect that to mean, it could take up to two weeks. I have already waited an extra week, and if I hadn't contacted them multiple times, I wouldn't have heard anything about it :/

It could simply have been condensation that caused the tags to change colour and indicate dampness or water damage. Apple have worldwide repair centres - get it back, or in view of the delay give them your new address.

Take it to Apple yourself as their options may be better.

You yourself said they said it 'could take up to two weeks' that does not mean it will, just that it could. They didn't (and wouldn't) say you will have it back no later than two weeks.

In saying that its as irrelevant as you leaving the country as you seem to be implying the rights you have are different because they haven't repaired it in the time frame you needed or they suggested.

    Unfortunately it doesn't.

You may have no knowledge of the water damage, but its present so ask them for further information on how prevalent it is, and if its £400 to repair what components are specifically affected by the repair quote.

I can only assume the MacBook don't turn on, is that the problem?
