Excel 2003 help with toolbar

I am usually proficient, but I have installed Excel 2003 and I can't find the edit box. I have looked in the toolbars and opened everything I can think of but it isn't showing in my toolbar.
I am not sure what the box is called but I have always used it in other versions of excel. If my cursor was in a cell the contents of that cell would show in this box in the toolbar allowing me to edit it. I find it particularly useful to see what certain sum functions are.
If anyone can make sense of my rambling and knows how to enable this in Excel I'd really appreciate it.

There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Hey, do you mean the formula bar?! Under 'View' you can place a tick next to 'Formula bar'. You then get the long text box accross the top of the screen that displays everything in the cell. Sorry if that's not what you meant!0
