Hi guys, I'm going on holiday :rotfl: in the UK in 2 weeks and need some ideas some simple meals I can make for dinners on hols as I dont want to be stuck doing loads of cooking/washing up when I'm away. It is for me, hubby and 3 young kids. Any help? We will be taking packed lunches out through the day so probably nothing sandwich related lol.
Thanks
Thanks
Mummy to two beautiful girls and one gorgeous boy.

Do you have access to a freezer or even freezer compartment. If so make some pasta sauces in advance and freeze. Then you only have boil the pasta and heat the sauce. Maybe get away with that 4 times?
You could make meatballs from some sausages.
Use the other sausages to make a bean and sausage stew with a tin of tomatoes? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
When we go self catering I just buy salad things and pork pie. Its really easy then just take out of fridge and put on plate.0

We find that soup helps when SC. It seems to make a snacky or salady meal more substantial and filling. So I'd buy packet soups (prefer these to tinned personally). Then have your salad or things like cheese/pate/ham with plenty of fresh bread. Similarly some new potatoes with a salad helps to make more of a meal of it.
If you've got a microwave, what about jacket potatoes with beans and cheese or cheese & coleslaw.0 -
When we caravan, I sometimes take our slow cooker or pressure cooker if the weather looks iffy, at least you can plan a hot meal for when you come in.
Soup and potatoes, pasta with cooked sausage chopped into it, pie and tinned potatoes, all day breakfast, the simpler the better.
Have a great time.0 -

I tend to just cook the kind of things we have at home, although don't usually do a roast. If we wanted a roast I'd buy a ready roasted chicken and then just cook the potatoes, veg and gravy to go with it.

We have a holiday chalet with roughly the same restrictions, and my meal plan when I go there on my own is heavily reliant on tomatoes (fresh and tinned), pasta, pesto, cheese, eggs, fresh green vegetables and salads, juice, frozen salmon, trout fillets, frozen haddock and peas. I always buy a bag of new potatoes and some spring onions on the way.
We don't have a freezer but the fridge has an ice compartment and it's stuffed full of the frozen fish and peas so that when OH can join me we can eat really well. Sausages, fishcakes, pasties and pizza have also been known to appear on the menu when I have cravings for that kind of food. I'd think about a small bag of frozen oven chips and potatoes for baking and/or mashing as well, where there are children.
I also make risottos, kedgeree and vegetable soups for the freezer at home regularly, and take them frozen to the chalet (they act as icepacks on the journey for the rest of the food) where they happily defrost in the 'fridge.Better is good enough.0 -
OH and I stayed in a hostel recently that had very limited cooking facilities and no restaurants nearby. We decided to do something for ourselves and picked up a bag of pasta, small jar of olive oil, fresh basil, cherry tomatoes, rocket, pine nuts and a small amount of fresh parmesan. Cooked the pasta and mixed the rest up in a large bowl - was very tasty, quick and easy to make. Use only a small quantity of oil and cheese, also quite healthy. BSchool is important, but Rugby is importanter.0
