iNSURANCE AMMENDMENT

Options
Hello every one, My problem is last year we purchased a Renault Clio for my daughter, and insured it in her name as a provisional driver with myself and my wife as named drivers , that was the cheapest way to do it, Then on April 22nd she passed her test, so i rang the insurance company to upgrade the policy, with "Good Girl" insurance a subsidiarity of Sabre insurance, i told them she had passed her test and wished to upgrade to full license the girl informed me that i had to pay £43 and a few pence i asked her this amount again as she was a bit unclear she again said £43 i asked if she could give me a transaction number to which she replied they do not do them for some reason. anyway all was well till i got my credit card statement which said they had took £743 i couldn't believe it. They haven't sent me any details of the payment/upgrade, to confirm which i am sure they should have done. If they had i would have been alerted to the problem sooner, I rang them just to confirm the amount and they said that i had agreed to the amount over the phone and i left it at that after i had given them a piece of my mind,
What i would like to know is , should they have sent written confirmation of the amendment to my policy,? and will i be able to get a refund off of them ? they also took a payment of £66 which was the last instalment on the policy, the policy expires in June so i have paid £810 for just over two months insurance SCANDALOUS.

Did you record the call? They might have - but are not required to supply it to you. Ask them to review the conversation and ask them to refund the overpayment.

There is no requirement for them to supply a written change of policy detail but from what you describe, the amount actually charged seems pretty reasonable for a young driver. That said, it is not what they advised.

The figure may appear scandalous but its not abnormal these days.

Insuring younger drivers after passing their test is high risk. Plenty of people post about getting quotes of over £4000 for a year.

You need to be careful, Doing a chargeback could make them cancel the insurance and you dont want to see the quotes having to declare that.

You need to put a formal complaint in writing, Sent recorded delivery not an email or a phone call. See if they will provide a copy of the call.
If that doesnt get a result, Then take the complaint futher it will cost them.

I now record my phone calls with an APP on my android smartphone. Worth looking into.

So you thought it was scandalous and you had £700 more taken than was agreed yet

"and i left it at that after i had given them a piece of my mind,"

Why would you just leave it and not follow the complaints process with them?
