Problem sending attachments in outlook/hotmail

Options
Hi everyone,
I'm really hoping someone can help me. I have had a hotmail e-mail address for quite a few years. recently hotmail chnaged to outlook. My e-mail address is still @hotmail.co.uk though. Ever since my inbox became outlook i have been unable to send attchemnets to e-mails. I click on the icon that says attach files but nothing ever happens? It doesnt matter which pc i try doing this on. I have checked my settings and there doesnt seem to be anything obvious. Please can someone tell me what the problem is?. i also have real trouble accessing e-mails in my inbox from my home pc. I'm fine on my ipad and work pc but at home i have to refresh 3 or 4 times when trying to open e-mails.

Any help would be really apppreciated :D

I would guess you are not completing the attach process.

    Hi Tina,

you don't say whether you're sending your mail via the web browser (Hotmail.com or outlook.com etc) or via an application such as windows mail or outlook.

either way you have to be aware that Microsoft has a 10MB attachment limit. in order for these to be sent they effectively need to be uploaded.

so normally, when composing your email in a browser you attach a file and then wait for it to be uploaded before the email is sent.

are there any error messages? could it be something to do with your browser not allowing you to attach files of a particular size or type or indeed at all?

If you can put a little more information around what you're doing or anything error related that might help with the diagnosis.

    cheers

Thanks for coming back to me. I log into my e-mails via the internet at www.hotmail.co.uk . there isnt any error message coming up as it doesnt do anything at all when i click on the attch file tab. There is no hourglass or whirling circle or any inclination that the computer is trying to load anything. I dont even get to try and choose which files etc. I get as far as clicking the attch file tab and nothing at all happens no dialogue box no wording or error message nothing at all. ....
It isnt that the file is too big as its a file i have e-mail previously several times when hotmail used to be just hotmail. It is as though the option to attach files is disabled if that makes sense?. In my settings the only thing i can find relating to attachments just lets you choose if you want to send attachments as files or as a skydrive and thats it.

I have never had a problem until hotmail became part of microsoft outlook.

Hope this info helps and would love any advice thanks x

    Hi Tina,

ok so what browser are you using? Internet Explorer, chrome or something else? What version would be useful too. Also it would be handy to know what operating system and version you're using too.

when you log into outlook.com i'm guessing you see the outlook menu bar with the folder list underneath.

if you press the + next to new does the window change to one where you create a new one? if you press the paperclip next to attach files, what happens? (you should get an open dialog box where you can select the files you want to attach).

if you select a small text file and click open you should see it upload and then a tile with the file name.

try it with a small text file just to see what happens.

    we'll get there

this might be worth a look see

I'm Unable To Send Attachments When I'm Writing an Email:
If the Attach button is not functioning when clicked, there is likely a conflicting Silverlight issue in your browser. Please try the following steps to resolve your issue:
    1. From within the browser that has the problem, go to http://microsoft.com/getsilverlight. That page will detect whether you have Silverlight installed, and which version it is.
    2. If that page says that your Silverlight is below 5.1.2, then please follow the instructions on that page to update your Silverlight.
    3. If your Silverlight is already up to date and something is still not working, then please disable/uninstall Silverlight from your browser. This can be found through "Manage Add-ons" in the top-right gear menu of IE, or through "Add-Ons > Plugins" in the top-left menu of Firefox, or by typing chrome://plugins/ into your Chrome address bar.
    4. Please clear your browser's cookies and cache. This can be done by following these instructions in IE, or by holding the keys Ctrl+Shift+Delete in Firefox, or by typing chrome://history into your Chrome address bar.
    5. If all of the above fails, please try using your browser's "Private Browsing" mode. This can be found by clicking "Safety > InPrivate Browsing" from the gear menu in IE, or by clicking "Start Private Browsing" in the Firefox menu, or by hitting Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome.
We apologize for this inconvenience and assure you that we're working on a permanent solution.
