Anyone used Crime Statistics?

I wondered if anyone has used the http://www.crime-statistics.co.uk/ website & how helpful you have found it? I was doing a wee search using a postcode of a place we are thinking of looking at & nothing came up over the past year? Thinking maybe it wasn't updated for Scotland I searched my own postcode  in the last year there has only been 1 month where there hasn't been a crime, the worst month there were 12 incidents. Now we are in the city center but I am truly surprised there is so much crime in my street, it is mainly incidents of anti-social behavior but there is some violent crimes too. Think we should maybe move ASAP.
Booo!!!

Indeed.
This makes the statistics virtually useless for many areas - 1 mile surrounding my postcode includes crime from across the city centre, so is obviously quite scary!
OP: try police.uk for a crime overlay onto a map so can look almost street-by-street.0 -

Checking a postcode with which I am familiar, I found hundreds of crimes listed which were recorded as being well away from the actual postcode and would probably have little impact on those living within the postcode itself (immediate outskirts of a city)
If the potential new postcode you are looking at moving to has a different "type" of 1 mile circumference, ie takes in mainly a surrounding residential/rural area then it would surely be usual for there to be a lower level of overall crime recorded than one that includes a city centre, where there will be the usual nightclub/pub/alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour and punch ups etc.
Edit - cross posted with DRP's comment above, making a similar point.0 -
Just looking at their website's claim
"We cover all UK Universities in addition to several variations of educational institutes. All crime is recorded surrounding the University campus, this has been proven useful when choosing rented accomodation" My bolding.
Their Uni list does not appear to include "all" UK Universities ( of the bricks & mortar type) and yet does include the OU.......0 -

I just checked our postcode and we had no crimes at all in March 2013 - not surprising I guess as we are in a rural backwater, but I was expecting at least a bit of sheep rustling, LOL!
I also checked DS's area in SW London and was again surprised as *only* 685 crimes were reported there in March.......
