Printer Recommendations

Hello :)

So, I'm starting a little sideline selling prints of things I've designed. Not trying to spam, so that's as much info as you're going to get about that, lol.

I had pondered with the idea of getting these commercially printed, but have the idea now that in the long run it might be better having my own printer so I have better control over how many I get printed etc, as most commercial printers will have a minimum order and to get my cost price down it would be better having my own decent printer that I can print on demand from.

So yes, any printer recommendations? Must be able to/have;
  • print up to A3 at least
  • have a reasonable ink cost
  • print on poster thickness paper
  • have a pretty decent quality, as the idea is these prints will be for display

I don't mind if it's used, and ideally I won't be wanting to spend more than around £100 but might go higher for the right printer.

Thoughts?

Thank you :)

I had a Pixma before and really liked it, so that's definitely an option! Thanks :)

£100 will not buy you a decent commercial quality 5 or 6 col inkjet A3 printer.
What kind of volume is required?

As I say, its a sideline so not a fully fledged business yet (Long term, I hope so, but initially not so much) so volume will be minimal. Could be one a week, or several a week. I just don't know at this stage.

I would be more inclined to say very low volume to start with, just printing on demand.

Look at it from the customers point of view.

If you’re selling, then you need to produce something that’s worth buying.

It's a fair point that the print quality will need to match the price paid, and no probably not sellable if it look's cheap. Sellable initially yes, but gaining a reputation for a cheap looking product isn't an option.

I guess perhaps there is a little naivety here, I can design but normally design for web thus printing has never been a concern before now, so printing definitely isn't my forte, thus my expectations of cost are maybe naive.
