cancelling SKY

Good Morning everyone,
just a quick question, last year when moving house a friend of mine phoned up to notify SKY of her house move, and to arrange for them to transfer everything to the new home, on requesting this, SKY told her becaise she was moving she would have to take out a new 12 month contract. My question is , is this allowed, all she wanted to do was move home and take SKY she didnt want to be tied into another year with them.

If she had resisted at the time they probably would have waived the 12 month contract. However now 6 months later its probably too late to do anything.

If they told her at the time it was a 12 month contract and she agreed there isn't anything they can do now.

  • Thanks, she knows there is nothing she can do now, But we have been arguing this for ages so I thought I would ask here. I feel she was falsly told she would have to take a new 12 month contract, it sounded really underhand to me, but then again I dont know the legalities of SKY and all it entails. I just thought surely if you move home 8 months into a contract you just transfer it over and pay up for the remaining term and renew if you wish or cancel.

Did Sky have to do anything when she moved? (e.g. put up a Sky dish for her).
  • no it was a case of move in , and await activation at the new home, SKY had already been installed previously by whoever lived there.

They didn't insist on a new contract when I moved in similar circumstances.

What part of sky are we talking about here....

Given she already had sky, Where does activation come in?

My money is on that fact they have had phone line/broardband through sky. Which may not be able to be moved with out a new contract if its to a different area.
