Thanks all. The jacket is a piece of work uniform so I haven't got a choice in the matter....What kind of vinegar is recommended?

White vinegar would be best but malt would probably do.
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

Malt is fine, it doesn't stain & is cheaper than white.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Another method: grab a block of soap (any bar should do it), wet the smelly area(s) in water as hot as fabric will stand, apply the soap to the affected areas and rub well (proper old style :)). Then wash the jacket in bio detergent as hot as the fabric will stand. BTW - wear rubber gloves (the BO smell can transfer to your hands - eugh!)

Good grief! What sort of company makes its employees wear second hand clothes?
I thought you were going to tell us that you had found the most exquisite vintage Chanel outfit in a charity shop for two pounds. :rotfl:
