How to wash out the smell of B.O from clothing?

I acquired a second hand jacket that absolutely stinks to high heaven. I've febrezed it to death but I'm obviously looking for something which actually works - the smell is still there after washing.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you can give me!

 Do you really want to wear a second hand jacket that reeks of someone's body odour , even if cleaned surely you would not want to wear something like that!

Try soaking it in some Biotex and may be add a few drops of tea tree oil.

Or vinigar added to the wash will probably be suggested.

BO is bacteria, low temp washes won't kill it , a high temp wash should sort it out for you

Try bunging it in a sealed bag with CLEAN cat litter (granules). Mysteriously that can often get the pong out of all sorts of stuff - even non washable things like musty books ;)

    rubytuesday's idea is a good'un.

Soak for as long as you can in prewasher/soaker (e.g. Biotex, Napisan), wash according to the instructions with vinegar and Zoflora instead of fabric conditioner.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

that will absorb the odour but the bacteria will remain, they will multiply and its back to square one

I'd give it a good soak in Zoflora and put it through as hot a wash as the fabric will tolerate. With as much vinegar in the fabric-conditioner compartment as it will hold. Then set the machine to "rinse and hold" at the end of the washing-cycle for as long as possible.

If that doesn't fix it I'd burn the jacket.

If you can't put it in a hot wash I've found that soaking with Milton works well but it is a mild bleaching agent so don't soak it too long (half an hour I think.) Maybe that's the same as Zoflora essentially.

Use meat tenderiser on the underarms, then soak in biotex overnight, and then wash it with a biological powder as hot as it will stand, followed by a non biological powder containing bleach and a whole bottle of zoflora in the drum.
If that doesn't shift it nothing will.
