Claire - just so you know, they do advise you get your carseat brand new as you never know if a 2nd hand one has had any damage. Well done on keeping the costs so low though :D
  • Feeling sick whenever I ate dairy products, Fainting in shops because there was no where for me to sit down for a rest once inside(including Mothercare)......Feeling very unattractive for obvious reasons

The one thing I looked forward to each day was spending on my unborn child

So whilst we all like a bargain and seek them out on E-bay or in the market or in the sales..., I also thoroughly enjoyed picking up that
extravagant Christening dress and getting the crib and cot that I wanted from Mamas & Papas

BUT if I had to I suppose I could greatly reduce the spend but at what cost... and no LOL I'm not referring to my happiness BUT instead on things like 2nd and car seats and old cot mattress that someone has given you NOT GOOD.
  • Avent Bottle Steriliser and Bottles: £6.00 all in (rrp £25 for steriliser; bottles £3.00 each) Am I evil? I 'sterilised' with boiling water

    [/QUOTE]

The microwave steriliser is so easy to use although I kind of agree with the boiling water comment, however I'd still go out and buy another one the second time round LOL

I wasted money on dummys/soothers as my DD didn't seem bothered about them....bouncey chair wasn't really used a great deal surprizingly.
Never used the rain cover for the Pram/travel system....

Looking back I did spend way way to much on the Cot and not enough on the Pram as at the time I was convinced I'd probably never use it, coz we have a car and it turnt out to be quite the opposite in fact.

So so....pleased that I brought the motorised swing HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I paid the full price of £70 - £80 for the angel care baby monitor AND my sister picked the same one up from a carboot 2nd hand in it's box.

Spent what was it now £55 or so on the framed hand & foot print when she was a few weeks old, BUT I think you can do your own DIY jobs for £5 -£10 from Argos...

Do they do them in BOY babies as they would be so lifelike because they never grow up.
These could be the way forward. help reduce the population and save the planet. No Nappies, No screaming brats in tescos to shove in the frezer when mum isnt looking (never worked antyway coz freezer too warm while shop people fiddle the temps). No having to have silent and motionless sex incase little Johnny hears and asks questions.
No having to rush out and beat up parents whose brat beat the crap out of yours.
No having to buy stupid expensive trainers just because the apprentice says they are cool and out of fashion before they are worn in
No coming home and finding they have raided your booze cabinet.
Tea is always on the table as no excuse for OH not to be in the kitchen
The list is endless I could buy eleven and have a football team (sort of big subuteo anyway)

  • Its easy. You just go to a car boot sale.

Everything you wold ever need for a baby is sold there and most of the time its in excellent condition and costs next to nothing.
    What the Deuce?

Is that because of being Gay or religious reasons.
    Couldnt you adopt

Thanks for the reminder but this car seat was the one for keeping at grandparents and therefore hardly used. Also I trust the friend as she would never allowed her kids in it if it was dangerous.

Blimey, £500 - she must be MADE of money!

We're almost ready for baby number 1:

    - Clothes: £10ish for a couple of bundles from eBay
    - Pushchair: £50 (only good for 6m up but was a bargain!)
    - Disposable nappies to start with: £10 ish BOGOF bargains
    - Reusables: £20 returnable deposit for free trial pack from council, £100 budget for starters
    - Cotbed/baby monitor/baby bath/bouncy chair/moses basket: free (gifted from relative second hand)
    - New mattress: £40
    - Carseat: free secondhand (from a relative so I know it hasn't been damaged)
    - Maternity pads/breast pads/chuckaway undies/toiletries for hospital etc: mostly gifts (I have weird friends!) and other outlay approx £20
    - Maternity clothes: eBay £15 for 4 pairs of trousers

So what's my total ... £245 including lifetime's supply of nappies, not to mention what I can then eBay afterwards or at least offer on Freecycle.

I wouldn't have bothered with a moses basket, baby monitor, bath or bouncer but since they've been given to us it's great to have them. They really aren't pricey to run, babies. I'm told it's when they hit double figures the trouble starts!
