Folic Acid and the Pill

Hello all

I am planning to come off the pill in a few months with the aim of starting to try for a family. Should I start taking Folic Acid now and if so, is it ok to take with the pill?

Many thanks!

hiya i think that your best bet would probably be to stop taking the pill and then take folic acid when trying! my first ds was born with a few probs fine now though and never took folic acid! ds2 i took folic acid with and no problems although some people will say its not definate i know that but i think its good!!
    good luck

there's no harm to taking it before you come off the pill as far as I know but certainly once you stop you should be acting as though you're already pregnant and taking folic acid, avoiding alcohol and cigarettes etc... good luck with TTC - it may happen quicker than you think so be prepared!

My doctor advised taking it a month or so before you start trying and then throughout the pregnancy. Folic Acid is naturally found in some foods (broccoli for example) so I wouldn't have thought it would affect the pill. I was also advised to wait about 3 months after stopping the pill to make sure it was all out of the system.

    Good luck!:D
