Hi
My daughter is 17 in september and we are looking at helping her with her first car.
Can anyone advise which is the cheapest/best cars for insurance and any good companies to use please?
Thank you
Hey there!
The sad news is that there isn't a cheap/best car to insure, however there are some things you can do to bring prices down.

Have a read through it, go on autotrader.co.uk tell your daughter to check some cars out she likes! and use the numberplate from that car to get an insurance quote.
While getting insurance quote it is a good idea to change your name and address around a little bit, like if your house number is 10 then change to 12 or so on.
Insurance at 17 won't be cheap but it all depends on your postcode. I, 19 year old male am currently paying £3600/year because of the postcode, If i change to my uni postcode it drops by half and can get insured on pretty much any car at Uni postcode however hardly any cars at my home address.

You want a car in insurance group 1
Parkers have an insurance group search, but to sane you time, this means
Citroen C1
Vauxhall Corsa
Fiat Panda
Volkswagen Fox
There are some other obscure makes, but stick to cars you've heard of.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Ford KA....... Cheap to insure, rust buckets but a good first car to get the NCB.
Use one of the ins firms that do escaltor policies so you insure for 10 months and get a years NCB - Admiral, Elephant and Bell i think do them.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -

don't get 10 month plans, a lot of them cost the same whether you get 10 months or 12 months. So it's a false economy to "fast track" your noclaims.0 -

Haven't come across one yet that is the same for 10 mths as 12 - costs a fortune if you pay in instalments though.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -

Depending on how many miles you'll be doing, something like a Merc CL or (old) BMW 630 may well be cheaper, as insurers will naturally assume you'll take more care of it.
I posted a few results a few months back and the results are scary (which I now can't find, but will look when I get back to the hotel)

2003-2004 Reanult Clio - 1.2 16v - 75bhp Expression (Elec Windows/Central Locking etc). You could pick one up from eBay for about £800-1200. I think they are group 3.
Loads of them in the scrap yards, plus half the front end is plastic.0 -
