cant delete history trail.

I am unable to delete history , windows vista, aol.
I have tried all the proper steps. control panel int options, general tab etc etc and deleted from that, but its hasnt actually got rid of it from the drop down bar on aol. I restarted after doing it, cant think whats wrong, and ideas please?
