1st time doing electricty and Gas

I am looking for some help.
This will be the first time I have had to get Gas and Electricty for a property I am renting. I don't have any previous details and not sure what I am meant to be looking at
Its a terraced house, with an electricty meter, which I want to change.
When I get quotes it wants to know who I was with before and costs, but I have not been with anyone before
Can someone tell me how to get past this loophole or what I need to get going in the first place and make sure I get the best rates.
Thanks

Why do you want to change the meter? Do you mean that you have a PPM rather than a credit meter? You are currently in a deemed contract with the existing suppliers, so you can't switch until you have submitted reads and opened an account with them.
To use a comp site, use your estimated annual kWh usage and enter any tariff as current. It doesn't matter which, the point is to get the comparative results. No free lunch, and no free laptop
