Anyone else use candles everyday?

I think it looks cosier than the electric lights (and it's cheaper
)
Candles would be much more expensive than electric lights for the equivalent amount of light.
A 40W bulb (far more powerful than any candle) would use just over 1kWh a day... So that's about 12p for a full 24 hours of light.
However, according to the link below, one candlepower is about 12.3 lumens. According to Wikipedia, an incandescent bulb emits about 16 lumens per Watt, so a 0.769 Watt bulb should produce one candlepower. That 0.769 Watt bulb would cost about 12p for 1300 hours... or about 0.22p per day!

LED lights would be much cheaper still.
As Thomas Edison is supposed to have said to much laughter at the time, "We will make electricity so cheap that only the rich will burn candles."

I use candles more if I want to get rid of cooking smells as they are brilliant (especially cabbage
)but I do like getting them and often have them bought as presents. When you get to errm... a certain age folk seem to think 'Oh I know I'll buy her a candle she'll like that ' Well I do but at Christmas I seem to get overloaded with them
:) Perhaps I'm thought to be that old that I will enjoy them more than a bottle of gin
:) (trust me I don't ) but Hey its the thought that counts isn't it:)

Not everyday, but a lot!
I like partylite candles. I know a couple of reps so pick them up in sales or when there are good offers.0 -
I burn candles most evenings cos I love the cosy feeling it gives but I find once lit the scented candles don't smell (or at least not to a degree where I notice the fragrance).xxx Nikki xxx0

I love having candles burning. I find the light more relaxing than electric glares, and on a chilly night, I find it takes the edge off the cooler air.
I had the same problem with big church candles, with them either burning wonky or just down the middle, leaving large amounts of unused candle. I've started cutting them back if that happens, and also purchased a pack of wicks. I grate up any leftover wax and make small candles from that, so nothing gets wasted. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Even more bargainacious is to use cotton string instead of proper wicks. I melt down left-over candles and make new ones often as I have a friend who works in a bar which has tall candles all over the place and I get all the ends in a black rubbish sack from time to time. Splosh in a few drops of scented oil, and maybe a wax crayon for colour and Robert est ton oncle.0

Only during power cuts. Unfortunately, I believe they're a large source of indoor air pollution and wouldn't like to use them often. The soot isn't healthy, it probably resembles the small particulate emitted from car exhaust (plus it makes the house grubby), while metal core wicks can contain lead and cadmium that is emitted in to the air and settles out as dust around the house. Well, the heavy metals at least aren't supposed to be in there any more, but there's lots of imported candles for sale and I'm not aware of any extensive testing before they're sold here, so I have my doubts about them.0

Not absolutely every day, but we do use candles a lot. I like the little tea lights, and have a selection of different holders. If we use "ordinary" candles, I save the leftover wax to make up into new candles, too.
I always burn a white candle on the night of the Full Moon, and different colours are used for different occasions in our house.:o
One thing we do use every day is incense - either sticks or cones. We have a plethora of holders for the sticks, and several burners for cones, including one in the form of a dragon - the smoke comes up out of his mouth!:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Thistle-down, I always reuse my old Yankee jars, cotton buds, bic razors, tea bags and hot chocolate sachets to name just a few. They are food grade glass so after a good wash the world is your oyster xx0
