unauthorised credit card on my account

Just looking for some advice - I logged into my internet banking to find that a credit card had been set up in my name which I did not agree to.

I had a sales call from someone at my branch a few days ago and she recommended me for a card. I asked her to send me out a leaflet as I was at work and couldn't speak. At no point did I agree for the card to be set up, but it appears she has gone ahead and set it up anyway.

Apart from complain to my branch is there any further action I can take? Any advice would be welcome.

    I'd complain to telephone banking right now, if I were you, and report it as having been opened fraudulently.

    Probably comes down to your word against theirs. Did you or the Bank record the call? If you really don't want the card, ask them to cancel it.

    I'm sure you are far too sensible to do the following........ please don't spend on the card up to it's limit, struggle to make the repayments and then blame the bank because you didn't want the card in the first place.

    I'm puzzled. I'm sure I've seen this question - word for word - somewhere recently - but a search doesn't show it.

    Anyone else get that deja vu feeling?

    I think I wouldn't ask them to "cancel" it. Just tell them the story and suggest that they cancel it. It's not clear from the OP if he has received the card. Saying he wants to cancel the card might cause a problem later if it turns out there was some fraud and the OP later apparently has to change the story.

    OP just don't activate the card - destroy it.
    This will hurt the sales person even more than complaining about it.

    That is just what I was thinking. Just cut the card up and forget about it. I'm sure you have better things to do than to chase up something you never wanted in the first place :D

    Not sure if you have the option on your internet banking but on mine I have the option to cancel DD. If you do just click to cancel it, that way nothing can be taken out of your account.

    As it has been said, I wouldn't bother complaining, you won't get anything out of it.

    No, the OP does need to complain.
    This is very, very bad practice on behalf of the advisor and they are only doing this to hit their sales targets.
    They are opening this without the agreement of the customer and no agreement has been signed.
    Call your bank and be put through to the complaints team who will investigate this.

    An unactivated card does more damage to a seller than somebody using it once and then closing it.
    The sale only counts when the card is activated and if this is a regular occurrence it won't be long before his/her manager calls them in to explain.

    Seen a similar post before.

    Seems easy enough to cut the card up and write to close the account.
