We do need to set a limit on the weekly amounts the Council pays towards your care in a residential and nursing home due to our limited resources.
We have to set a maximum price on the weekly amounts which we have agreed to pay to homes for residential or nursing care. These levels are set by the Council every year. This maximum price includes any contribution you might be paying yourself.

Yes, of course you are quite right. When I look back my figures were nonsense anyway - sorry :)

The client has a financial assessment and contributes all their income minus their personal allowance and the LA pays the rest up to their maximum rate. Any more than this has to be done as a top up by a family member.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Where my mum is her contribution goes directly to the care home. Perhaps this is different in other authorities.

Thank you for the reply. Whilst I understand what you are saying, this can't be the case because I have already been asked the top up fee from the home. At this point in time the home do not know the total of my dads income so how do they know they will require a top up fee? Or do they just ask for them anyway in the hope that the families won't query them?

As you will see from my other post I made a complete hash of it :)

Any amount over the LA maximum rate will require a top up from a family member.
