Refused information EGG

Hi,

dont now if anyone can help or share any advice?

I wrote to egg last year asking for some information about my old account with them to do a ppi claim. I dont have any details of it in terms of account numbers but can give them enough info to pass DPA. They responded in quite a rude manner saying they dont have to give me any information. Im pretty sure thats not correct has anyone else had this with egg or any other company?

Did you make a request under section 78-79 of the consumer credit act (costing £1) or did you make a request under the data protection act (costing £10)? Or did you use a template letter that does a bit of both of can confuse issues (i.e. specifically asking for a copy of your credit agreement?)

On closed account, the lender has no requirement under 78-79 of the CCA to provide a copy of the agreement. They would be allowed to reject if you used that method. Under a DPA request, they only have to supply it if they still have a copy.

you say the response was rude. Why was it rude? Normally they state the reason why they are not supplying it.

  • hi

thanks for your reply. I didnt do it under either so i suppose thats answered my question! I just sent a letter requesting the information. The response that come back from them stated they werent under any obligation to give me any account details and that i shouldnt write to them again.

I will write to them again requesting my information under the consumer credit act and go from there

If the account is open then remember to send the cheque for £1 with it. If the account is closed, you cant use the CCA method.

Just send them as much personal detail as possible so that they can find you. Name, address (at the time), date of birth etc.

I done this as well - got the standard letter back saying they had no info on me. I submitted a PPI claim to them using account number details I got from my Credit Report (Noddle) - claim was upheld and I received a small cheque.
