My DVDCD doo dah is being awkward about reading discs - sometimes it will, sometimes it wont grrr.
I am using a Hi-Grade laptop which is several years old. has been well used!
The device manager gives this: TSSTcorpCDDVDW SN-SO82H ATA Device as the writer installed. Any idea on replacement? There is no name on the device that I have found....Am so not a techie :huh:

The DVDRW is a toshiba/samsung model. Usually, the best place to find a replacement is Ebay or direct from the manufacturers of your laptop. By the way, it would be helpful to state the make and model including model number of your laptop in any request for help.
If Google doesn't come up with anything and my quick search didn't reveal anything other than drivers for that model; you'll need to discover which drives may be compatible with it. Alternatively, buy an external USB DVDRW which you can simply plug in when you need it eg:
