Direct Debit move to First Direct

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone could answer a quiery for me?

I've just set up a FD current account and am using their switch service for my DD. They've sent me a list of my DD that the will move over from my existing account.

On this list is a very old DD, that hasn't been paid since 11/12/2009, and the amount listed as £0.00. I was surpirsed to see it there, as it no longer shows on my existing current account DD list online, and to be honest, I'd completely forgotten about it!

I know its showing as zero amount, but to be on the safe side, should I sent back the list amending it so that DD is not moved across to my new FD account, or am I being unnecessarily paranoid?

Thank you for any help you can give :)

Can you not just cancel it using online banking at your current provider?

Either send back the list or just let the DD move and then cancel immediately using FD online banking.

Just strike this particular DD out.

The purpose of them sending you the list before they do anything is to ask you which of the DDs (and SOs) you want to have moved. Perfect opportunity to tidy up where it's needed.

You're right to be paranoid about direct debit transfers in general though. I had two fail to transfer one for the council tax and one for the electricity. The council tax one was set-up properly (it showed on online banking) but the council tried to collect before the transfer date and FD bounced it citing "NO INSTRUCTION". So do keep a very close eye on what's going on.

Thank you for all of your responses.

I will send the list back striking this one out, just to be on the safe side.

    Happy Sunday all x
