Blogging for extra income advice please?

Hi all I hope I have posted in the correct place. I am after some advice in setting up a blog and thought where better to ask than here.

I have a cracking idea on a blogging subject that I don't think is covered by anyone.

Can anyone suggest where I should start with my blog? Do you recommend the free hosting and blogging or should I start off paying for it as I do want to be earning from it in the future? Any recommendations?

Also my blog will be advice with a possible personal consultant service offered but mainly advice. When it's up and running where do people earn there money from? I think my blog could be of interest to bigger companies so what line of advertising should I use? Or do you think it's better not to earn any advertising and get it really popular and then approach these companies myself? I have researched this on google but there are allot of spammy sites. Can anyone recommend good advice sites, courses or books that I could gain some more information on blogging?
