I wonder how many people have done this though. Would it be difficult to prove? I personally would not do it but Im not a chancer either. However may a politician would perhaps give a different point of view re your question!!!0

I don't know, but in OP's position: a property valued at £175k being sold at £125k (almost 30% below market rate!) which is right on the stamp duty threshold, being bought by the brother of the vendor.. you'd have to assume there is close to zero chance that would go unnoticed! And once noticed you'd think would be easy to prove beyond reasonable doubt.I wonder how many people have done this though. Would it be difficult to prove?

Because this is what the OP's aim is - to reduce her costs, potentially by avoiding stamp duty. Getting a lender who pays it for her will do this.
