Why do you have to pay a cancellation fee on insurance that supposedly isn't valid?

If you've been driving around without any insurance for two years then you've committed a criminal offence.

Of course, it's far more likely that the terms of the insurance don't cover you fully comprehensively.

It sounds as if you didn't provide the insurance company with enough information and just assumed you were "fully comp".

If you have documentary evidence to support a complaint then you do stand a chance of getting some redress. Without this, it doesn't sound as if the company is at fault.

You also have to register the car in the UK if you are going to keep it here for more than 6 months.

Why were you attempting to extend the use of an Irish registered vehicle? Your insurance would have been valid but only for the time period stipulated by the policy. It is not cumulative (asking every 6 months to extend). Once the period is up, if you have not driven he vehicle back, your insurance expires - third party cover will still exist, but nothing more.

Two years UK cover is unlikely, especially as the UK requires you to return or re register and if over 12 months, exchange your licence.

There are no false pretences, except your breach of UK registration and licencing requirements
