Hi All,
A quick question for you ; I have booked a week in Lanzarote in August. Travelling Aerlingus from Dublin (I live in N Ireland) . Also have an apartment booked through an independentlletting agent.
Presumably the travel insurance I will be purchasing will be a UK based company.
I have been told (by a fireside know-all) that if my insurance is from UK, but departure is from ROI then it will not cover me in event of delay or cancellation.
My first thought was "bullsh1t" as Iwwill be furnishing details of my trip to the insurance company, and also since leaving home will be a UK start point this would also rubbish that point.
But...... Would any of you know for sure?

You are leaving from NI, not ROI, surely.0

Yes im leaving my home in NI to travel to Dublin Airport, so presumably that is my "departure" point and not the actual airport ?
I must say i have never heard of this before, hence the question0 -
Here's an example wording:-
Cancellation cover starts at the date and time of issue recorded as part of your application and as shown on your policy confirmation, and ends when you leave home to go on your trip.
All other cover begins when you leave home to go on your trip and lasts until you arrive home0 -
Your fireside know it all is right.
We live in NI and are flying to Florida from Dublin. Someone told me this could be a problem with UK based insurance companies so I phoned a couple and checked and they won't cover as they class it as a departure from another country. They don't count the drive to Dublin Airport.
Best thing to do is use comparison sites for quotes and then phone and ask the company.
It isn't just that you won't be covered for delay and cancellation, you won't be covered for anything.
How many people have gone away happily from Dublin and didn't realise that the insurance they bought is useless?
We were further limited to companies due to my husband's health. Got a policy from Globelink and we did double check with them that we were covered from Dublin.
ETA: We booked through Thomas Cook and if we had taken their insurance we would have been covered to fly from Dublin. (We didn't due to cost with husband's health.)
ETA again. There was a previous thread on this before Christmas started by me but I don't know how to post links. There were some companies suggested in that thread to try0
