Our local Barclays used to change coins for me but now will only change these if you have an account with them. This is more than a bit annoying as I used to bank with them and they closed my account without my knowledge because it was dormant (when I stopped working for a while to have a baby). The bank I now bank with closed the local branch whereas Barclays is over the road from me.

I get round this by using my bags of 1ps and 2ps when I go in Barclays to pay my barclaycard bill!

Our local post office will change coins no bother.

Presuming you pay your Barclaycard once the month, I wonder, how many bags of coins do you accumulate in the course of a single month?

most small shops would bite your hand off for bags of 1ps and 2ps considering they usually have to pay a little extra for loose change

Just out of interest and this is a genuine question - what have you been doing with all your 1ps and 2ps all these years?

Just put them in a pot of change when I don't want my pockets to be weighed down. Also if I was going out somewhere, for example a nightclub, and I don't want to be waiting longer searching through loads of change to pay for drinks I've already queued for 10 minutes for.

When I go to the shops or the market, I will take a load of change to pay with, but I still seem to have lots! I'm also one of those people who will pick up a 1p if I see it on the floor, so that's another way it accumulates.

I'm with Barclays so I could try changing it there.
