Inspiration comes in many forms

Some of you might have caught this in the news, I thought it was worth re-posting. Much of what she describes is very similar to my life growing up and I'm saddened to say that those days appear to be back for a large portion of the population. In my case, it was an aging father made redundant three times in one year and a profligate mother that caused our decent into poverty, but there are many reasons and it is becoming an increasingly common story these days.

Any way, I urge you to read it.

A girl called Jack : http://agirlcalledjack.com/2012/07/30/hunger-hurts/

When you've read it, ask yourself whether your life it truly hard and whether there is anything more you can do to insulate yourself against adversity. I advise you all to 'make hay while the sun shines' if you can and renew your efforts towards debt freedom because ultimately, your best bet is to pare back your outgoings to minimum levels as far as practicable. For Jack and millions like her, adversity is knocking, only this isnt 1985, this is 2013.

This post also had me thinking hard as the reality of my own situation bites and I once again visit 'strugglesville', a place I believed was just a bad memory. Sometimes you read something, and you just find yourself muttering 'yup'...

  • thanks for posting this blog FireWyrn I read loads of it last night. How very inspirational this woman is. What a fighter. Think I will invest in her recipe book when it comes out. Also going to give some of her recipes a go this week... Its been a real long time since I have been this broke, but it wouldn't take long to go back there I'm sure. If I did I hope I'd have the resources to be as strong as she is!

Very sobering article. Really does make you think. I have never been in as desperate a situation as the lady in the article of having to sell precious items to buy food or pay rent. I have however had times of unemployment when you get to the stage of eating crap cos it is cheap and wondering how you are going to stretch the money out. But things do work out if you don't give up hope. Looking on this particular blog it seems the lady was offered a book deal- which hopefully will massively improve her circumstances. I think the recipes she has could be very useful to a lot of people. I'm sure we'd all like to take inspiration from her towards making cheaper but healthier meals.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
