Hi
I am looking to get a new desk top as mine is about 8 years old.
I use mine for browsing, listening to music, watching tv/youtube, and viewing photos. I dont play any games on it.
I do usually have several different browsers open at once and I am very impatient, so would like it to be quick!
I dont want to spend more than £400 ish, what should I be looking for? I am not techy at all
also I think my monitor is faulty so I would like a larger monitor.
Cheers

Have a look at the Dell Vostro range on the Dell Small Business microsite..
Absolutely any modern PC will do the tasks you mention with ease-browsing is not very processor-intensive.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Budget around £120 for a 23" to 24" Full HD monitor, such as this one.
That leaves you with £280 for the tower unit. Check GrumpyCrab's posts for a DELL Tower unit for around £260.0 -

Perfect, just ordered the monitor.
Do you think I can still get a decent tower for around £300 or should I spend a little more, not really sure what I should be looking for ?0 -

Here is the post.
Can't comment on spending more or less, as I'm using a six year old PC.0 -

24" IPS monitor for the same price
You can just go into your Amazon account to cancel the other one. Didn't realise that you would order so swiftly.
Original link for PC here0 -
what makes you thing the monitor is faulty?
sticking some more ram in, or reinstalling windows will probably bring your existing machine back to speed.!!

I have a problem with my monitor as in it goes black but the "on" blue light is still on.
I did think it was the PC itself and have had help from you guys on here :T with speeding it up , but now I have realised it must be the monitor. If I switch it off and then on again (just the monitor) sometimes it works again but mostly it doesnt. I suppose if I replace the monitor, I could stick with the same PC but I have no patience and I would prefer for it to be faster. It is an old one I have had for at least 8 years. I have done nothing to it, I wouldnt know how to0 -
cable ok, and seated at both ends?
if the machine was fast when you bought it, there's no reason it couldn't be fast now.
the main problem is probably insufficient ram, 512 is on the low side, an upgrade upto 1.5-2GB should make it much much better. www.crucial.com/uk!!
