Is backup email ok?

My email account has been hacked. I'm not worried about that email account - I don't use it for anything important. But I use a backup email account thats linked to the hacked account, for important things (amazon, xbox store etc).
Email account was hacked Thursday and I have only just seen the alert message in backups account. Ive changed the password on the backup email and about to swap accounts over to a different email addy.
Is changing the password on backup email good enough? Is switching all my important accounts to another account best?
Or even better --- moving imprtant accounts to another email account and then onto another email account?

You should not just abandon the hacked e-mail account otherwise it will be used for more spam etc - log in and change the passwords and any security questions, then see if you can close the account, although if you have changed as I said you may be OK to carry on.0

I'm unable to log in to hacked email account atm. I typed in my password and was given the message that the account was trying to be accessed from an unrecognised computer/location.
I was asked for the answer to the security question which Ive forgotten. The date the last time the security question was changed has not been changed so I guess the hacker hasnt been there. Im now locked out for 24 hours.
This hacked email account has not contacts in it so everyone is safe --- except my backup email account which is connected to it.
Ive checked out my other email accounts and a few of them have alerted me to someone logging in from an unknown computer/location. When I check this out, its me!
The hacked email says the hacker is from Moroco.0
