Hi all, seeking some help.I bought a new laptop and tried today to install my HP printer on it.When I put in the printer disc a window comes up and says click button to install BUT there is no install button, only a button saying exit and another saying click to leave the installation. My only thought was is the disc limited to a certain amount of installations?
I have used it on 3 computers in the house and wonder has it a set limit or has anyone any ideas? As usual many thanks for any help.

I wouldn't normally expect a printer install disc to have any limitation on the number of installations.

Is your new laptop Windows 7 / 8? If so, you shouldn't really need an install disc. When you connect the printer, Windows should recognise it and automatically install an appropriate driver for it.

Yes its the new windows 8,Now the printer has wireless and I wondered should it recognise it without a cable as its a case of I do have the cable somewhere in the house but just wheres another thing. But im thinking without the disc being able to load the computer isnt going to know the printers there.Think I may launch a search for the cable.

I'm no expert but I think you'll initially need to physically connect the printer to the computer via a USB lead to get it recognised and have the computer load the appropriate drivers.

Then configure any wireless settings (can't advise on that as my only experience is with an old LaserJet 1015 that has no wifi built in but connects to the router's USB socket, and with the appropriate USB printer sharing software all our computers can access it wirelessly).

Found the cable, connected it to the laptop/printer but same thing occurs only difference being the windows opening up saying files currently on disc 55.On my old computers when I put the disc in it ran automatically including setup etc.Is there something I could type in to make it install?

Your driver disk is unlikely to have the correct drivers on it for W8, unless the printer is also fairly new. So go to the HP support site and download the correct W8 drivers for your printer model.
W8 should detect and install the drivers automatically, but it obviously hasn't in your case.,
Forget the driver disk you have, you don't need it.
Set it up using USB first, then once it's working you can enable wireless printing if you want to.
The PC doesn't 'detect ' the printer unless it's connected. You connect your printer wirelessly by using the interface to access your existing wireless network-just enter your wi-fi code.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
