British gas £100

I took up an offer from BG last year for a £100 'refund' at my year anniversary with them . The catch was, that the special unit rates 'attraction' bonus , finished two months before the end of my anniversary date . As these last two months are low usage usually , I figured it was a fairly safe gamble.
I had a problem with them in the beginning getting them to state that I would still get the £100 as long as I was still with them on the anniversary ,regardless of whether I was 'in waiting' to go with another provider. They agreed it was ok in the end.
Could they act superfast in transferring me to a new provider to avoid paying the bonus ? I was thinking of applying for new provider 28 days before anniversary date - do you think I should cut it to just a week or two?
Did anyone else take up this deal and actually get the £100 back from BG ?(Its supposed to be applied to the first bill AFTER the 12 months, but I queried this and was told if I left them after the anniversary, it would be applied to the closing bill.
