RBS ppi refund question

Hi,
We were offered refunds from the RBS for mis sold ppi payments. Today we received cheques for the interest and a letter saying the actual ppi amounts have been paid into the bank account. The bank account was frozen and we were paying off an overdraft to them. We have phoned RBS and they explained that any arrears would be taken off the money paid into the account and the bank account would then be closed and a cheques issued to us with the remaining amount. Just wondered if any one else has been in this situation, if its normal and how long would we expect to wait on the rest of the money.
Many thanks for your help .

You would normally expect a few weeks at most for the surplus.
