Help with redundancy choices please...

The organisation I work for has announced redundancies. They are inviting people to apply for voluntary redundancy and if they don't get sufficient take up they will make compulsory redundancies. Voluntary redundancy terms will be more generous than compulsory redundancy terms, which will be statutory redundancy pay only.

They are not saying how much more generous voluntary redundancy payments would be though. We are invited as individuals to make proposals to the organisation of the sort of money we think they ought to pay us to leave. The organisation would then consider these proposals. I am new to this game and I have no idea what is a reasonable sum to request. Internet searches have left me little the wiser.

I am entitled to approximately £4,000 statutory redundancy pay. Could anyone advise me (hazard a guess even!) as to how much more money it might be reasonable to expect as a voluntary redundancy payment? Can you suggest any specific factors I should take into consideration when trying to work a figure out?

I would suggest a month's salary for every full year of employment. I've been given that in the past when made redundant, and I don't think it's unreasonable given that the statutory pay is based on 1 (or 1.5, depending on age) week's salary for every year (with caps for length of service and and a max. of £430 per week).
