Salt bins

Not sure if this is quite the right forum, so please move if not.
I live in a complex of 10 houses and we have a ramp running up to them. In winter this gets rather treacherous so we are looking to club together to get a couple of salt bins.
We have contacted the local council who were as good as useless and just told us that they weren't interested since it's a private drive.
Can anyone please advise as to where we can buy salt bins (and of course the salt to go in them!)...?
Thank you!

Go out and buy a cheap plastic dustbin £15 ??0

I'm getting a 'Session Timeout' by following that link, but yeah... I can see those now. £100 still seems an awful lot for a plastic box. Is there anything special about these grit boxes in terms of how they are made, or would a plastic bin suffice for the job?
Why doesn't everyone just use a £15 plastic bin... surely there's a reason... ?0 -
i only keep bags of salt for the school paths. they are kept local the the areas that need salting.
if you have space to store the bags, then a bin will be more than good enough, i use an alo dustpan to spread it out which can also be kept in the bin.
all of the above can be purchased from most largish builders merchantsNever put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..
