Howdens kitchen - relative costs

Have you tried speaking to the Howden's rep?
I had a kitchen from them a couple of months ago, when the rep came out he was quite good in terms of suggesting the cheaper alternatives with respect to apparently similar sinks etc. It's a fairly modest house and we quite good for not over selling etc.
They also unexpectedly sent me the full cost breakdown after the builder had to make a minor mod. It was attached to the revised plans so not sure if it was a mistake.
We had the almost opposite experience...the rep was the one who wanted to put every conceivable gadget/cupboard/expensive item into the plan and so we let him....we then deconstructrd the plans and put in what we wanted....the kitchen then suddenly shrunk by thousands in price.
Our kitchen fitter obtained a good discount from howdens which we were aware of. Prices are set very high and discounts given on a sliding scale according to how much business a kitchen fitter puts howdens way.
One fitter we asked could only obtain 20% discount so we went with the fitter who could get a higher discount and was prepared to share some back with us on fitting costs.
We opted for the burford range which has been reasonable in quality.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
