Connecting Media with PC DVI to HDMI cable

I have been using a vista media centre PC with a samsung 32" LCD 720p screen for about a month and have had it connected using SVGA cable, which was fine. Colours were bright and crisp, just a couple of issues with screen sizeing on occasions but otherwise fine.

To embrace new technology and get the most from my gear i have purchased a (fairly cheap) DVI to HDMI cable and it looks awful. Colours are washed out and fine text seems blurry.

Now, is it the fact that I didn't buy a good quality cable, the argument against such cable being "its only ones and naughts etc" or am i missing something else?

It's no big deal as i can always go back to SVGA but it would be nice to use proper digital connections as they are available.

Any help would be great......Ta!
