anyone solved "snap.do" problem?

a site called "snap.do" pops up every time I open Google Chrome. It tells me that my computer needs fixing & I must run their programme.
I am certainly not going to do that, but it annoyingly pops up all the time and I am worried that it is going to cause a bigger problem. It has affected a lot of people, as Google is full of questions - however, none of the suggested solutions work. It can't be "uninstalled" because it isn't actually a programme on the computer. Someone claims to have downloaded it, then uninstalled it and that got rid of it. I'm not willing to run that risk.
There are plenty of people who will get rid of it if I set up a direct debit for an unspecified amount of money.
Any ideas, lovely people?

Also a good idea to make sure your computer is up-to-date with any security patches, update your antivirus (and run a scan), and maybe check out Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware, Spybot - Search & Destroy and SpywareBlaster to get rid of and/or prevent any subsequent malware from taking over...0

Am off to try that, thanks waddler.
Yes, the computer is up to date - with Norton (installed by DH, I have F-secure on my netbook, which I prefer). We have to be very careful about installing security programmes, as we only have a 0.5 mB connection, and a lot of security programmes slow it down too much.
Thanks0 -
AdwCleaner is a standalone - it doesn't "install" as such. You run it, delete then click the uninstall button when finished.0

Thanks
Spybot's "TeaTimer" component runs all the time, but I don't think it's that useful so I choose the "custom setup" and de-select that option. If you do that, Spybot will only slow your PC down when you're actually using it to run a manual scan. The "immunize" feature just adds known malware sites to the blocklist built into web browsers.
SpywareBlaster also just adds malware sites to the browser's blocklist, so also won't slow your PC down.
And Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is only used for running manual scans, so it will only slow you down if you're manually running a scan.
Hope this helps :-)0 -

Waddler - seems to have worked (3 days now!) so again, many thanks, and am off to send a donation to them.
Thanks esuhl - I will go and check those specific things - we did have spybot for awhile and had to get rid of it, but didn't know all that tachie stuff.
I love MSE!0
