Do I reapply ?

Options
Hi all,

I am drama teacher and have worked at the at the same school for 12 years. Unfortuenly many of the departments at my school are being subject to redundancies.

We are being made to reappply for our jobs. In my department there are 5 teachers only 3 jobs up for grabs.

This is probably a stupid question but here's my situation: Ive just accepted a better job at another school. I therefore want to be made reduntant as I have missed the notice period to finish in july. If I do not reapply will I still get redundancy money ?

Im pretty sure if I did reapply I would be kept on so Im not keen to reapply.

We have a union meeting at 18:15 today, but I have only told a few off my work mates about my new job so do not want to ask this at a publc meeting, as there are a few people I do not want to know.

Thanks

Don't reapply and keep your potential new job situation on the low down. In fact tell them it's fallen through otherwise if the bosses find out then you might be kept on deliberately so they make you resign and not pay you the redundancy.

Redundancy, PILON plus a new job - a win win scenario.

Not in education it isn't. You are subject to burgundy book. You can't take redundancy and move straight to another job. There has to be a month gap. If there isn't you will have to pay back redundancy. Plus safeguarding means that you need a current employer reference and so there is no way you can get a job offer without your employer knowing. Any offer that you have will be subject to crb and references.

You need to tell them. They will let you leave for September but you will not get redundancy. Remember this is public money.

You are not too late for a sept start- unless you are a ht or dht the resignation date is the 31st may.

    Hi all,

Thanks for the information, I have a one on one meeting with my union next week, so will ask then.

Another quick question: If I do get made reduntant and the end of jul, my job start date will be in september, this will be over a month, so does this count ?

My new schoolhas just sent off for my CRB and when that comes back, they will request my refrences, so I need to make a decision of what im doing soon.

    Thanks

    Hi all,

Im a little clearer after some research and exchanging a few emails with my union area manager. He has told me not to reapply and just hand my resignation in. This is beacuse :

    1. He's aware that my head teacher is fond to keep me on, as im a manager for a well performing department.

    2. He mentioned that if I do get made redundant , I could not accept another job within a month and keep redundancy money.

    3. On saturday I recieved a letter from my new employer Informing me they will be contacting My current employer with the next week for refrences . Therefore they will know I plan to resign and would not payout.

I have wrote my letter of resignation and will hand it in tommorow if I can. Although the redundancy money would have been a bonus, my new job is on the senior leadership team and therefore my salary will increase anyway.

    Thanks for your help

Presumably these rules mean that the new job will comes with continuity of employment for future redundancies.
