Earphone Newbie

Hi guys,

I need a bit of help my iPhone earphones broke on me a couple of days ago and need to get some more ASAP. I wanted to try a different brand and have been looking online for some alternatives. Am willing to spend up to £50 :)

Came across bassbuds they look really pretty and all but I'm not sure on the quality. The site says about how good they are for sound but I'm wondering if any of you have had experiences with bassbuds and were they good or bad?

Thank you, don't want to spend the money if they aren't that good :)

I can only speak of my experience of Sennheiser earphones as I haven't tried any others for years.

They usually sound very good but one channel always breaks for me within 6 months. I didn't mind this when Play were always doing them for £10-£15 down from £35 (CX-300) but now they are always full price. Personally I would stay away from them now because for the money you don't get a very reliable product. I have read reviews of other Sennheiser models doing the same thing.

At the moment I am using the free ones that came with my old Galaxy SII, the problem with in ear is that you can't test them so you never know what you are going to get.

Hi, I go for the cheaper earbuds (which I assume you're after rather than on-ear or over-ear?) Also, do you commute? if so, do you want to annoy everyone around you? (or given your previous choice, stop doing so? ;-) )

I suggest RHA MA-350 / 450 (350 around £25 thru RHA on amazon), or perhaps Soundmagic E10 (wide variety of colours). both were very highly rated by what hifi, and I like em both, but it is personal choice. RHA may be too bassy, SM may be too trebly...

I also had the CX300II's but yes too pricey now vs competition
    Friendly greeting!
  • Your best bet will be to go to a shop and try some out. Everyone's hearing is different and what may be good for one person might be rubbish for someone else.

Agree as many seem to want boom boom bass rather than standard sounds .

  • I have been a sennheiser fan for ages and i simply love them however last month my cx300 gave up the ghost so i was looking for replacement. I came accross the KA201 earphones on Amazon which looked very similar and it was only £5.I purchased one and all i can say that there is no need to spend £50 for a pair. they have 30 days money back guarantee and if you dont like the quality of the product you can return it for full refund ( thats what they wrote on Amazon) . If you dont believe me check its reviews. Even the guy who left a negative review compared it with other well-known brands. I will add those earphones on MSE once I figure out how :D Simply search for ka201 on Amazon.

I got some Monoprice Enhanced Bass Hi-Fi Noise Isolating Earphones from Amazon recently, and I'm very impressed with them. Excellent sound, and the bass is good, provided you get a good seal when you put them in.

I lose too many sets of earphones to warrant spending much more than a fiver on them :rotfl:
  • Do you seriously think that they have good bass and comfortable to wear. Most of the people complaining about the earphones having no bass at all. Also they dont seem to be comfortable. I have not tried the monoprice ones however i m just checking its latest reviews and they are not very promising. KA201 earphones looks, feels and sounds like my previous sennheiser cx300 which cost around £20-£25 i think. Also it is a win win situation, if you do not like it just send it back for a refund.

There's no brand name anywhere for these KA201s.

Stick to a brand that's renowned for their expertise in audio products - Sennheiser, AKG, Beyer Dynamic, Maxell etc.

Funilly enough that Is exactly what has happened to mine. One channel is so quiet it seems as though only one side works! I didn't realise this was common with Sennheiser. I thought they were good quality. I won't be buying them again then.
