Italy trains

Options
Hello - I am going on hol to Italy in August and need to book tickets for train travel from Venice to Rome and then to Sorrento...the train tickets come out in May so I am going to book soon.
Has anyone got any recommendations for good websites to book through? there seem to be loads to choose from and I'd like to go with a recommendation if there are any.
thanks in advance :)

Trenitalia is the Italian train company, so if you book through anyone else you will be paying more for their commission. However, it might be worth paying more for a more user-friendly site.

Yes, I always use trenitalia.it, just click the 'English' button in the top right. Anywhere else you'll be paying over the odds.

I gave up on Trenitalia a couple of years ago as it wouldn't take my credit/debit cards. Run of the mill Visa or Mastercard - nothing unusual or obscure about them.

    Is it any better now?

I used it two weeks ago with a visa debit, no problem.

The main problem with trains in Italy is that the staff are on strike half of the time.

Brilliant thanks everyone. I was looking at Trenitalia and thought it looked official.. will also checkout seat61 as well. Do Trenitalia post the tickets to your home before you travel?

    :)

Nope, they email confirmation to you with all the information you need.

The confirmation includes a reference number which you give to the ticket inspector on the train.

    Happy planning!
