laminate flooring

Can anyone recommend someone to me who lays laminate flooring? Reasonable, that is, not a big company or anything. In the Ilford area? Thanks.

Why don't you attempt to DIY it is fairly easy for most people if you take your time, or alternatively any Carpenter will be able to do the job, look in you local paper for ads, work on the basis of £10 - £15 per pack to lay.

I would agree with Tom, its not too hard to lay a laminated floor if you take your time, I must admit I was dubious at first when my daughter asked if I could fit her living room floor having never done it before, but I must have made a half decent job as it was swiftly followed by her hall, and maybe Dad is not as daft as he looks.

Carpet fitters would be able to help you out as well.

If you're going to do it yourself B&Q do a tool for fitting it, basically its a flat metal bar with a hook at one end and square metal block welded on at the other end. makes the job sooo much easier especially when trying to get the last couple of bits in where you've no room to hammer them into place. Don't hook the tool directly onto the bit you're knocking into place, use a bit of wood or an off cut from one of the bits of flooring so you don't damage the lip when you're hammering them into place.

Two 55 year old non diy women did it and did a good job as well :T (I was one of them) It is straightforward but cutting the pieces takes the time up but if you use a jigsaw it is easier. The rest is just like a jigsaw (other kind). The pieces do not have to be cut exact as there is a gap all round, which is hidden by the beading. Simple.
  • If you're doing a full redecorate on the room at the same time, take out the skirting boards and then lay the floor, use the skirting to cover the gap rather than the beading, much nicer finish.

Also if you get a flooring company to do it, they will put the new skirting about 1-2mm off the floor, then use a bead of clear silicone in the gap - don't let them do this, paint the skirting first, then put int the silicone.

And remember if you are doing the whole room, work from the top down, paint the ceiling , then the walls (after taking off the skirting), then put the floor in, then put on the skirting, then paint the skirting (sliding a bit of paper through that 1-2mm gap).
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%
