is an email quote binding

we were looking 4 rent holiday let and sent a request to the agent for a property for 5 people for 5 days, they replied with a price, i rang and asked a few qustions confirmed the price and put the property on hold. i rang back the next day and said wed take it to be told that the was a 50 pound uplift for the 5th person, even though not in their original quote. they said sorry their mistake but wouldnt alter, can they do this?

    They gave you a price.
    You made an offer to buy at that price, but they turned down that offer.

    Before you reach the point of committal, both sides have the opportunity to revise the potential agreement.

    Also bear in mind that they can refuse to sell to anyone, up until a contract is formed.

    You used the word 'quote'.
    Did the email mention that word at all?

    Definetly not binding, If it was can you imagine if someone made a typo of £0.01!!

    It's not binding until the contract is formed, when you rang up to confirm the contract they declined it, which is their right to do.

    Bit unclear whether there was an offer and acceptance in the first phone call.

    What do you mean by 'on hold?'... Could be either I'll think about it overnight' or 'great I'll take can I call you tomorrow with my card details.'

    You don't know that.

    It will all depend on the wording of the quotation and whether it amounted to an offer capable of acceptance.

    Moreso if it specified how long the quote was valid for too.
