New credit card long before expiry date

I've got a Marbles credit card and have just received a letter indicating that they are going to send me a new one. I've just checked my current card and it doesn't expire till December 2014. What reason can there be for a company to issue a new card so far in advance? There's nothing wrong that I can see with the existing one, and in fact I hardly ever use it except for online shopping. It's a proper Chip and Pin card, so I can't think why it needs replacing. It's really not worth a call to an 0845 number, so I thought I'd see if any experts out there know why this happens.

Maybe they're worried about fraud?
