Direct Debit Refund

Hi,
So I had gadget insurance from my phone from Protect my Bubble which I cancelled around a year ago with them. However I just discovered today they had continued to debit each month through the direct debit.
I presumed that they would not collect payment anymore since I cancelled my policy, was it my responsibility to cancel the direct debit? And is there anyway I could claim a refund, since obviously I was paying for a service I no longer required and had informed the company of this.

Have you asked them? I can't believe they'd be difficult about it if you've cancelled.0

Contact your bank and ask for a refund - they should sort it quite quickly and without any hassle as it is covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee. I presume you have some sort of proof that the insurance was cancelled? (a confirmation letter/email or something?)Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

But why did the OP only pick this up now! Highlights the need to check bank statements and cancel DD with the bank too.
(not having a go as I have been guilty of similar in the past)0 -

Indeed, I bit my tongue (should it say fingers when you are typing??) to not lecture on the need to check statements etc regularly!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

Understandable. I've changed bank account since, it was an old account I keep open in case I can't use my other account. I never thought to check I transferred all my other direct debits over to my new account and presumed since I'd cancelled the insurance that I wouldn't need to do anything else Will certainly check next time, lesson learnt! :T0 -
And yes OP, it is your responsibility to cancel unwanted Direct Debits.
Of course nothing should be taken after you cancelled the contract, but as you have found out, mistakes happen.0
