    2. Some financial institutions responsible for our money can't devise any sensible scheme for getting this right.

I think my experience just shows this to be absolutely true.......

I did miss another good one from the Nationwide's letter, the first line says:

"Thanks to the occupier of your previous address for notifying us of your change of address......"

I wrote ! why would the buyer of my old house write to MY building society ? he wouldn't know that I had an account there, any mail would have been re-directed...............

...........it appears that some people not only can't write a letter nowadays - but they can't even read one !!

The ones that allow you to change your address by letter are normally the ones that write to both the new and old address.
How does that help? You don't live in the old address any more, and the new address may be the location the fraudster is planning to use. Yes, if you've got effective mail forwarding running it might be secure, but many people, particularly those living in rented accommodation, don't.

I imagine it helps so that if your address has been changed fraudently you are still at your original address so will receive notification your address has been changed.

I imagine all the letter says is your address has been changed.

    It seems a sensible precaution.

Yes goater is correct. If the change of address was fraudulent then by writing to both the new and old address the account holder will know.
    It's someone else's fault.

I hate this situation. I wrote to everyone and asked to change my address. I put down that I'm deaf and cannot do it over the phone.

A few companies changed the details. Some asked me to phone them even when I mentioned im deaf.

So I got my partner to call them explaining the letters then I get them saying that they can't speak to her due to data protection. So cannot deal with my letters cannot allow someone to call for me.

So how the hell do I change my address.

Simple get my dad to pretend is me and do it.

    Worse bunch of bull ever
