CIFAS Notice and Current/Future Credit Cards?

Hey,

So today I found out the reason I had been declined for two cards I applied for was because I had a CIFAS notice issued which was done by Lloyds TSB as they believed someone was committing fraud in my name (based on address nothing else), I have been in branch they have assured me that it will now be removed however I am concerned whether it will affect my current credit card with Barclays and whether or not I will have problems in the future?

The guy in Lloyds I spoke to said that any future application I will have to do in-branch rather than online which I don't mind at the end of the day... although it appears that I have to use my back-up account more in order to be eligible for any Lloyds credit card which I think is barmy, surely if my other non-Lloyds account shows that I fit the requirements and my credit score is high, it shouldn't matter whether I apply using the Lloyds account or my HSBC one?

While that is a small annoyance I am worried that in the future any application I make will now be hindered or declined because I had this CIFAS notice on my file, I obviously will be waiting for 6 months before any more applications as I don't want to impair my rating any further (if it has been impaired due to this?) however after the 6 months, will I face issues? what about my current credit card with Barclays, will they do anything?

Also in regards to my address, should I make have all addresses updated to the place that I have held the longest? currently two accounts have my London address which I haven't had for a long time so perhaps changing them back to the previous address I still have would be wise?

Thank you for reading and hopefully you can give me your opinions on the matter :)

A CIFAS marker might not stop you getting new credit just that you will have to have your application looked at by a human rather than the automated process.

There are pros and cons to having and not having it on your credit files.

It is being removed, will this mean that from now on regardless of it being on there or not, a human will look at the application every time?

    And what are they?

I suspect it doesnt really affect your credit rating. I think it's more to do with the fact that the credit card companies dont want to incur admin cost of requesting your ID and all that stuff to process your application.

Most credit card companies are in the business of approving credit card applications instantly without verifying income or ID

Have the address set to where you are living to ensure that you receive All your mail.

Statements & Promotional offers may be getting sent to those places and so you are making yourself ripe for fraudulent apps to be attempted..

Well I have both addresses and it is pretty much equal in terms of time spent. The CIFAS wasn't issued because someone else made a fraudulent application in my name, it was my own mistake by using an address I thought was connected to Lloyds (as I hadn't changed it intentionally) for the application. They have since told me they are going to remove it although I am concerned about my future chances with any application of credit as well as if anything is going to happen to my current credit.

As for changing addresses, surely if I have had one address the longest I should make sure all banks are connected to it? my credit report actually states that the address is my main one still so if I just amend two banks details it should be fine for the future in terms of securing credit?

Companies use National Hunter to tie together different bits of information - any anomaly or differences in times at addresses you quote can compared to other declarations and cause such a flag to be made..

The only problem will be when you apply for credit card likely they will ask you to send ID.

Couple of years ago I applied for Natwest CC and my address had CIFAS mark. The online application was referred, the next day I had an telephone call asking to send in identification. Their was no reason for this as I had RBS CC & Natwest Current Account. Afew days later received a letter asking for ID. On the letter it said CIFAS verification department.
