Financial help to employ a solicitor

Hi Everyone,
On behalf of a friend, does anyone know if there is financial help to employ a solicitor to assist in the financial settlement of a divorce regarding property. It looks as if she is being stitched up by her ex.
She can't afford to pay for a solicitor herself, its all she can do to support herself and 5 children, which she does admirably, considering her ex contributes as little as possible.
Help is needed urgently, as she is being asked to sign papers which are difficult for the lay person to understand, and she is at her wits end.
thank you

Legal aid for most family law cases was removed by the government recently, I'm afraid.
If there was no domestic violence then she's unlikely to be eligible.
CAB might be able to advise. Or look to see whether she's got a local university with a law department which offers law clinic sessions. Or perhaps a law centre; they may do some pro bono sessions.
She might just be able to get a free initial half hour session with a family solicitor, but as their main income stream has now shut down almost completely, they can't afford to do these sessions for everyone who previously would have been eligible.0 -
