Unable to access hmcourts website

This is a bit of a perculiar one. I am ubable to access hmcourts-service.gov.uk or any sub pages on the site. I have tried not only different browsers (ie6/firefox2), but also tried accessing the cached pages on google and also on webarchive to no effect.
Viewing the source, it shows it has the source for the header and first part of the body. I have tried saving the page, it gets as far as 10% then sticks (suggesting it has got about as far as the browser did).
I can access the site on my mobile phone, localising it to either the connection or my pc. I have no problems accessing any other site on my pc though, including the BBC, direct gov, money claim online, and more 'naughty' sites shall we say.
Any clues?
OS: WinXP (SP2)
AV: FreeAvg 7.5.467
Broswer: ie 6.0.2900.2180 / Firefox 2.0.0.3
Connection: Private LAN (provided by residence), ISP ask4, firewalled, behind proxy
Thanks!

What error, if any, does IE display?
Try Ctrl+F5. Try clearing browser cache, or https://www.ccleaner.com0 -
There is no error, not even a 404, the page simply doesn't load. It doesn't even time out.
I've run cc cleaner but still no effect. I've also cleared the cache (which I do reguarly anyway) and tried ctrl+F5. I've even tried adding ?1 to the end of the url incase the isp cache is ignoring the refresh request, but again no effect.
I don't think this is browser related (otherwise it wouldn't affect both browsers) but either a system configuration issue or a connection issue.0 -
Try a proxy server ie: https://www.megaproxy.net then click 'try me' input the address: http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/ press go. Or google for 'free proxy' http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html input one of those addresses into your browser and away you go.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
ABH, I've found it does work acessing it through a proxy. This is bizzare though, considering it couldn't load it off google's cache of pages or through webarchive. Whilst not ideal, at least I have a workaround. Thanks!0

I have read this thread with great interest as I have one site that I just cannot open on my Vista laptop, although it opens without problem on my desktop pc.
http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=2
Like tripled, there is no error message, the site just does not open. I've left it as long as 15 minutes and it just hangs. However, trying the Megaproxy link, it opened immediately.
I'll never understand computers0 -

It could be one or several of these options, whatever addblocking software you're using, if you're using a 3rd party app to surf annoymously, or it could be an anomalous entry in your 'hosts file' http://malektips.com/spyware_adware_0017.html or even that you've disabled a security entry such as directx or java in your browsers, or they have been set to 'off' by default or not updated them.
You both need to check your hosts files, as well as whatever 'security' programs you're running ie: McAffee et al to see what they are blocking and from where. If you don't understand what your programs are doing, uninstall them untill you're absolutely sure you know you need them.
Another possiblity, though a rare occurence is that your isp has blocked the site. Some people scoff at this, but it does happen. I know, I've been there. Some isp's keep a record of the addresses people visit the most either for proxy serving or to prioritise traffic. However, sometimes the addresses are put on the 'blocked' or 'unsuitable' list mistakenly as they are sites that they perceive you don't need to visit anyway. My isp used to do this, untill someone made a mistake and alot of people complained. So it might be worth asking them.

since I can access the site from my desktop, it isn't my ISP
I found the problem the first day I had my laptop, before I'd installed anything, and at that time tried everything I could think of, turning off the popup blocker, putting it into my trusted sites, asking on various forums for advice - nothing worked
Until I spotted this thread I couldn't find anyone who had the same problem. It isn't worth worrying about really, unless I come across a site I really need0 -
Checked my hosts file, that's in the clear. I don't run any antispyware programs in the background (once a week I do a sweep with AVG antispyware) and I don't have a software firewall (my connection is firewalled).
I might try the lappy on the connection later, problem is I'm only allowed one mac address at a time to be registered to connect, so I'll have to ring up the isp to get them to change it over  However it still seems odd that it could connect through a proxy but not load the cached page from google or webarchive.0 -
have you tried powering off the router for a few minutes and then back on....Ex forum ambassador

Can't, I connect through a LAN provided by the company which owns the flats.0
